PAAR!!!! 魄‧擊 (Yangqin and Marimba Duo)

PAAR!!!!, a duo combines of Chinese and Western percussion instruments, formed on 11 November 2011 by Yanki Sze‐yan MA and Phoebe Wing‐ki CHAN in Hong Kong. The group mainly focuses on yangqin (Chinese hammer dulcimer) and marimba, aimed to explore innovative sounds created by Eastern and Western percussion instruments.
PAAR!!!! plays a huge variety of repertoire from their own original works to characteristic tunes from places around the world. The players’ goal is to express themselves through music under their cross‐cultural background, and create a unique style among the contemporary music industry.
Repertoire of PAAR!!!! includes original work, Light in the Darkness (2011) – premiered in the 11th World Dulcimer Festival held in Hungary. I Beg, commissioned work premiered in the Southern California Marimba Competition 2012. Other transcribing music includes The Flower Drum, A Little Prayer, The Reel Dance and Le Tombeau de Couperin – Prelude.
